Update on Baby Rosalind!

For the ones that don't know Rosalind has had some problems with her thyroid and the doctors have had her on medicine to help it out. We went to see a specialist at Children's hospital today about her Thyroid and for now they couldn't tell us much that we didn't know all ready.  They are going to keep her on the medicine and do more blood test to monitor her levels. She is now 10 lb.  6 oz. and is 22 inches long.  Michael and I are still hoping that she will be one of the 25% that grow out of this by the age of three. For the ones that don't know much about Thyroid here is some information:

She has Congenital Hypothyroidism it occurs in approximately one out of 4000-5000 births. The thyroid gland is shaped like a bow tie or butterfly and is located just below the "Adam's Apple" in the neck. It produces two important hormones, thyroxin (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Another hormone, thyroid-stimulating (TSH) is produced in the brain and sends a message to the thyroid gland to make T3 and T4. These hormones control growth and development of the body and brain, influence energy use (metabolism), and directs function of the heart, liver, kidneys, and skin. Rosalind has High TSH levels meaning that the brain is tell the thyroid gland that it is not getting enough T3 and T4. So that tells us she has a thyroid gland but the hormones that need to be produced are not being made or are not able to be used correctly. So for the next year at least we will have to do blood test every 2-4 months to see where her levels are.

Please pray for our daughter that she will grow up strong and wont have to take the medicine much longer. We know this will be a long process so pray for us to have the strength to deal with what ever god my put before us.
